The Kilauea volcano, on the “big island” of Hawaii, has been erupting for more than 30 days, spewing a river of lava that has swallowed hundreds of properties and damaged or destroyed miles of roadway. The Hawaii Department of Transportation is closely monitoring the situation—reacting to Kilauea’s every move.
