Washington State DOT operates the second largest ferry system in the world, moving more than 25 million passengers a year. In this Two Minute State DOT Update video, Washington State Transportation Secretary Roger Millar discusses how his agency is planning to make the fleet cleaner and greener. Step one will be to address the system’s biggest polluters–three huge Mark Two ferries which burn more than a quarter of the diesel fuel used by the entire fleet. Millar says WSDOT is planning to convert the Mark Two boats to hybrid-electric power which he says will benefit the state in many ways. Find out more about WSDOT’s plans for its massive ferry system, in this Two Minute State DOT Update.
