This year’s President’s Transportation Award for Equity is awarded to the Idaho Department of Transportation for the McArthur Lake project. In collaboration with the Kootenai Tribe of Idaho, this $11 million initiative is reconstructing a key roadway with wider shoulders and dual 150-foot span bridges to allow safe wildlife passage. Significant archaeological finds led by Kootenai archaeologists have deepened understanding of the area’s history, fostering inclusivity and equity by empowering underrepresented voices and honoring cultural heritage.
