The Minnesota Department of Transportation’s Hurricane Helene EMAC Response Team received the President’s Transportation Award for their dedicated service in supporting South Carolina after the impacts of Hurricane Helene. Through the Emergency Management Assistance Compact, MnDOT deployed an eleven member crew equipped to operate independently in a remote and heavily damaged area. Working with the South Carolina Department of Parks, Recreation, and Tourism, the team cleared downed trees and storm debris at Devils Fork and Paris Mountain State Parks and completed the assignment two days early. Their work restored safe access, supported local recovery, and protected important natural resources. Operating with limited outside support, the team modeled strong leadership, risk planning, and a commitment to safety. Their response reflects the highest standards of public service and the spirit of partnership shared across state DOTs.
