According to the Delaware Department of Transportation website, an entry-level engineer can earn more than $50,000 a year, yet finding qualified applicants is a real challenge. “I have a capital program which is three times larger than it was in 2009 and I’m doing it with a third less staff,” says Transportation Secretary Jennifer Cohan. “We’re being efficient about it but workforce is a huge issue for us.” DelDOT needs planners, finance people, marketing specialists and more.
