The American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials and three other national organizations are urging Congress to take three critical actions to give the transportation industry a “fighting chance” to recover from the COVID-19 pandemic.
In this latest episode from the On Time with Tymon video series, AASHTO Executive Director Jim Tymon says state DOTs are reeling from the negative economic effects of the COVID-19 pandemic, while the transportation industry as a whole is threatened by “systemic problems” plaguing the Highway Trust Fund. Tymon explains that America’s transportation network provides a “vital link” to deliver food to grocery stores and get medicines and personal protective equipment to hospitals and frontline workers. “We’ve laid out a plan for greater investment that will keep projects operating and people working so our transportation infrastructure will keep providing what we need for decades to come,” he says. America relies on transportation and we are counting on Congress to do the right thing.
