On Time with Tymon: State DOTs Still Need $50 Billion in Emergency Relief

In this On Time with Tymon video released May 18, 2020, Executive Director of the American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials, Jim Tymon reacts to passage of the “Health and Economic Recovery Omnibus Emergency Solutions” or “HEROES” Act. Approved by the House of Representatives, May 15, the legislation contains $15 billion in stopgap funds for state departments of transportation – well below the nearly $50 billion AASHTO projects state DOTs will need to continue operations. The emergency funding is “desperately” needed says Tymon due to the steep fall in motor fuel tax revenues, toll road receipts, and other funding sources due to the nationwide response to COVID-19.
